Rainforests under attack

I admit these are extreme times. As a little girl in Australia, I grew up surrounded by wild places...I could have never imagined that one day I’d be looking at a world in which rainforests were disappearing at an unfathomable rate—putting wildlife, forest peoples and our very climate in peril.

Dwijendra, will you help me do something about it?

I really hope so, because the Board of Directors at Rainforest Action Network has decided to issue a special one-time challenge to you starting today. For every dollar you give to RAN from now until December 31, we will match it dollar for dollar.

That means your $10 becomes $20, your $25 becomes $50, your $250 becomes $500 and so on—all the way up to $125,000. The difference your gift makes in the world will have twice the impact!

I’m not going to sugarcoat this. The clock is ticking for our climate, for our wild creatures, and for Indigenous cultures. That’s why this donation match offer only lasts until the end of the year—our planet needs us to take strong action RIGHT NOW.

I wonder sometimes whether future generations will have any wild places left by the time industry is through with it. It’s tough stuff to think about, but that’s why I devote so much of my time and resources to Rainforest Action Network. I want the next generation, and every one after it, to experience all the world’s creatures, the magic of nature, and a climate that is livable. Don’t you?

This 1-for-1 match expires in just 10 days, so if you want to make the biggest difference possible, the time to give your tax-deductible gift to Rainforest Action Network is right now.

RAN’s lean, nimble team has proven over the last 26 years that they’ve got the guts, the strategy and the savvy to change business-as-usual for the most destructive industries in the world—from fossil fuels to banking to timber. Just this year...
  • In the fight against the dirty Keystone XL pipeline, RAN organized impacted landowners, caused a mass media storm, and helped coordinate the largest act of climate-related civil disobedience in history. President Obama got the message and decided to delay the Keystone XL pipeline indefinitely.
  • RAN’s Rainforest-Free Paper campaign has pushed nine of the largest children’s book publishers in the U.S. to commit to protecting Indonesia’s precious rainforests. Currently, RAN is in serious negotiations with The Walt Disney Company, the biggest children’s book and magazine publisher in the world, to pass a groundbreaking paper policy.
  • This fall, in front of the Bank of America at Occupy Wall Street, RAN announced its ambitious campaign to organize mass BofA account closures in protest to the bank’s irresponsible financing of the polluting coal industry and its blatant disregard for the wellbeing of the communities it serves. Over 3,900 Bank of America customers have already committed to closing their accounts, and we’re just getting started!
These are the kinds of campaigns—and the kind of victories—you get to play a role in when you donate to RAN. Even better, if you give before December 31, your tax-deductible donation will be DOUBLED!

Can I count on you Dwijendra to join me in making RAN’s bold work for the world’s communities and climate happen? Say YES.

Thank you for your generosity this holiday season and your passion for the wild places of this world.
